Immunix Secure Server OS:

Immunix Secure Server OS is a specialty secure distribution, with several built-in intrusion prevention technologies. INSERT Linux:

INSERT (the Inside Security Rescue Toolkit) aims to be a multi-functional, multi-purpose disaster recovery and network analysis system. It runs from a credit card-sized CD-ROM for convenient transport or download and is basically a stripped-down version of Knoppix. INSERT provides full read-write support for NTFS-partitions using captive-ntfs.

KANOTIX:

KANOTIX is a Linux live CD based on Knoppix technology using Debian/sid. The included XFree86 is from Debian/experimental. The main specs are: GRUB based startup from CD, ACPI support, DMA default on, additional support for DSL modems (Fritz!Card DSL and Eagle USB), optimal for HD install (you get a working Debian/sid install in about 10 minutes!), kernel forcedeth (for nForce NIC), device mapper and some other patches.

Knoppix:

Knoppix is a bootable CD with a collection of GNU/Linux software, automatic hardware detection, and support for many graphics cards, sound cards, SCSI and USB devices and other peripherals. Knoppix can be used as a Linux demo, educational CD, rescue system, or adapted and used as a platform for commercial software product demos. It is not necessary to install anything on a hard disk. Due to on-the-fly decompression, the CD can have up to 2 GB of executable software installed on it.

KnoppiXMAME:

KnoppixMAME is a bootable arcade machine emulator with hardware detection and autoconfiguration. It works automatically on all modern and not-so-modern hardware, including gameports and joysticks. It is powered by Knoppix Debian GNU/Linux, X-MAME, and gxmame.

Knoppix-STD:

Knoppix STD is a customised distribution of the Knoppix live Linux CD. STD focuses on information security and network management tools. It is meant to be used by both the novice looking to learn more about information security and the security professional looking for another swiss army knife for their tool kit. The tools are divided into the following categories: authentication, encryption utilities, firewalls, penetration tools, vulnerability assessment, forensic tools, honeypots, intrusion detection, packet sniffers and assemblers, network utilities, wireless tools, password auditing (crackers) and servers.

Kubuntu:

Kubuntu is an Ubuntu-derived distribution. The Kubuntu CDs are made up of Ubuntu's base plus KDE. You can get exactly the same effect by installing Ubuntu and adding the KDE packages from the Ubuntu archives.

Kurumin:

Kurumin Linux is a Brazilian run-from-CD Linux distribution based on Knoppix. Its main features are excellent hardware auto-detection, support for Brazilian Portuguese and small size - the size of the ISO image is under 200MB.

Libranet:

The Libranet Linux Desktop is a production of Libra Computer Systems Ltd. Libra has been providing UNIX systems and software development since 1984. We are located in the Vancouver area of British Columbia, Canada. We chose Debian as the base of Libranet. Debian GNU/Linux is solid and true to the spirit of GNU/Linux. We are a small team who see the future in GNU/Linux. We believe that Libranet is not only a solid replacement for Microsoft Windows, but surpasses it in almost all aspects. As GNU/Linux evolves and more and more hardware becomes supported, we find no need to run anything else. Libranet runs in our own office on both desktops and servers and fulfills all our business and personal computing needs. Our goal is to continue to produce a system to be proud of.

Lineox Enterprise Linux:

Lineox Enterprise Linux is based on source RPM packages from which Red Hat Enterprise Linux is compiled. Lineox Enterprise Linux contains all programs included in various Red Hat Enterprise Linux variations (Advanced Server (AS), Entry/Mid Server (ES), and Workstation (WS)). It also contains programs included in separately sold Red Hat Cluster Suite and Red Hat Developer Suite. Lineox has removed and replaced all files of Red Hat Enterprise Linux which have restrictive copyright by Red Hat, Inc. Lineox has also tried to remove all user-visible references to Red Hat in Lineox Enterprise Linux. The most notable difference between Lineox Enterprise Linux and Red Hat Enterprise Linux is the support options provided by Red Hat, Inc. Lineox, Inc. does not provide any support for Lineox Enterprise Linux with the base product. Lineox, Inc. however plans to provide binary package updates for Lineox Enterprise Linux as long as Red Hat, Inc. provides updates for Red Hat Enterprise Linux in source package format.

Linspire Live:

Linspire is a full-featured operating system (based on Debian GNU/Linux) like Microsoft Windows XP or Apple Mac OSX. Linspire offers you the power, stability and cost-savings of Linux with the ease of a Windows environment. In addition, Linspire features exclusive Click-N-Run (CNR) technology that makes installing software on Linspire fast and easy -- simply find the software you want in the Click-N-Run Warehouse, then click and run it!

Linux LiveCD Router:

Linux LiveCD Router is a Linux distribution designed to share a broadband connection over WiFi. It can be used with DSL, cable modem, T1, ISDN, and dial-up connections. It can also be used it as a firewall, or as an access point for most WiFi cards. Linux LiveCD Router does not require any installation, but requires a dedicated computer to boot and run the CD.

Luinux:

Luinux is an Internet Gateway for your home network equipment (PC, VideoConsole, TV, oven, ...). Luinux comes preconfigured so, ideally, you just have to install it and play. Once installed in your server PC you get a Debian-based installation with the following features: easy installation; Debian-based, once installed it is easy to keep it updated; journaling file system; ethernet hardware autodetection; easy backup to ISO; Internet connection sharing; firewall router; traffic classifier to prioritise important traffic; intrusion detection system; transparent http cache; system statistics via web interface; secure shell support; NTP date adjustment; instant messaging server; NetBios network file sharing; Internet file sharing.

Lorma Linux:

LormaLinux is developed by the MIS Department of Lorma Colleges in the Philippines. It is built on top of Red Hat Linux - recompiled and optimized for the i686 computers, so it is faster and leaner. Perfect as a workstation and it comes on only 1 CD. It also contains software from the Linux Terminal Server Project (LTSP) for setting up diskless workstations. It uses KDE for its desktop environment and is constantly being updated. LormaLinux is a full-featured Linux distribution specifically made for ease of use and functionality.

Lunar Linux:

Lunar is a source based Linux distribution with a unique package management system which builds each software package, or module, for the machine it is being installed on. Though it can take a while to do a complete Lunar installation it's worth it as it tends to be quite fast, once installed! In the beginning Lunar was a fork of Sorcerer GNU Linux (SGL). The fork occurred in late January to early February of 2002 and was originally made up of a small group of people who wanted to collaboratively develop and extend the Sorcerer technology. The original name for the project was Lunar-Penguin but the group decided to re-christen it Lunar Linux while the Lunar-Penguin name has become a sort of umbrella which the team could use if they decide to collaboratively develop something besides Lunar Linux.

Lycoris Desktop/LX:

Lycoris is located in Maple Valley, Washington. The corporation was founded in 2000 by Joseph Cheek with a vision of making Linux simple enough for everyone and pioneered the Linux based home-user desktop by offering. Lycoris packages Open Source applications for the consumer market and integrates them into Desktop/LX, its simple, robust operating system. Lycoris has enjoyed amazingly positive press coverage in Time Magazine and other publications. Lycoris is positioning itself as the leading provider of the best Linux based operating system specifically targeted for the desktop market, whether purchased separately or pre-installed on Desktop/LX PCs.

Mandows:

Mandows is a French live CD based on Mandrake Linux with support for hard disk installation.

MEPISLite:

MEPISLite is designed for home users with modest hardware and for those who want to use a light-weight version of MEPIS with the Traveller Disc. MEPISLite is intended to provide an easy migration path for most Windows 98 users. It is also an ideal alternative to Windows for preinstallation on new computers.

MEPIS:

MEPIS Linux is a desktop Linux system that is also easy to configure as a dedicated server. It is designed for both personal and business purposes. It includes cutting-edge features such as a live/installation/recovery CD, automatic hardware configuration, NTFS partition resizing, ACPI power management, WiFi support, anti-aliased TrueType fonts, a personal firewall, KDE, and much more.

Morphix:

Morphix is a derivative of Knoppix, another live CD distribution. Morphix is modular; this means that it consists of a number of parts which together form a working distribution. What does this mean to a normal user? Well, that's the good part: it doesn't even know about the modules. They are invisible to it, save the startup-output on the console. So, if you don't care about how it works, just grab one of the combined ISOs and boot it! There are different pre-made cd images with a whole range of (currently GUI-centered) software. It has an easy-to-use installer, if you wish to install it to your harddisk, but it doesn't need to be installed. It doesn't touch the rest of your system without specifically asking you.

NetBSD:

NetBSD is a free, secure, and highly portable UNIX-like Open Source operating system available for many platforms, from 64-bit AlphaServers and desktop systems to handheld and embedded devices. Its clean design and advanced features make it excellent in both production and research environments, and it is user-supported with complete source. Many applications are easily available through The NetBSD Packages Collection.

Novell Linux Desktop:

Novell Linux Desktop, powered by SUSE LINUX, provides a leading end-user productivity environment designed specifically to empower businesses to leverage Linux* and open source with confidence. It can be deployed as a general-purpose desktop platform or tailored for use in information kiosks, call-centre terminals, or stations for infrequent PC users. Novell Linux Desktop also provides an ideal alternative to high-cost UNIX-based engineering workstations. Novell Linux Desktop users who are seeking to avoid single-vendor lock-in of their desktop systems can comfortably interoperate with Windows-based users, within or between organisations. Finally, Novell Linux Desktop, backed by Novell support, training and partners, allows businesses to deploy Linux systems with confidence.

OpenBSD:

The OpenBSD project produces a FREE, multi-platform 4.4BSD-based UNIX-like operating system. Our efforts emphasize portability, standardization, correctness, proactive security and integrated cryptography. OpenBSD supports binary emulation of most programs from SVR4 (Solaris), FreeBSD, Linux, BSD/OS, SunOS and HP-UX. OpenBSD is freely available from our FTP sites, and also available in an inexpensive 3-CD set.

OpenBSD CD Bootable Firewall System:

This project allows you to set up a full featured OpenBSD firewall without the use of a hard disk. The system boots from a CDROM and stores configuration information on either a floppy, or a USB mass storage device, such as a "pen drive" or a USB CompactFlash reader. The CD also contains a simple install script, to allow you populate a floppy or UMASS device with a basic firewall configuration. Simply boot the CD, select the media you wish to use, and answer some straightforward questions.

OpenLab GNU/Linux:

OpenLab is a product of South Africa's DireqLearn, an organisation with a goal to make a significant positive impact on education in Africa. OpenLab is a thin client-enabled Linux distribution based on Slackware Linux, with major development on top, designed with an educational focus, but applicable to most other areas, and especially suited for desktop use. Some features of OpenLab: fully Slackware compatible; unique desktop themes give maximum user friendliness without sacrificing compatibility; integrated thin client support, no complex setup needed; 2.6 series kernel for maximum desktop performance; many DireqLearn enhancements; unique, simple and powerful system administration interface; KDE and Dropline GNOME.

Overclockix:

This Knoppix-based distribution features a host of tools for network security, low-level hardware tweaking, burn-in applications like memtest, lucifer, cpuburn, and distributed computing clients - folding@home, seti@home, and prime-net. The GUIs include KDE, Fluxbox, IceWM, and twm with a good deal of customisation to KDE and Fluxbox. It even has Windows virus scanning capability and an ability install-on-demand 3D Radeon and NVIDIA drivers. Overclockix is a great tool to test out and fix systems and a cheap way to build distributed computing clusters Transparency and other tweaks can be found throughout the Window managers. It also includes support for NForce2 and KT400 integrated network cards, as well as some winmodem drivers.

PCLinuxOS:

PCLinuxOS is an English only live CD initially based on Mandrake Linux that runs entirely from a bootable CD. Data on the CD is uncompressed on the fly, allowing up to 2GB of programs on one CD including a complete X server, KDE desktop, OpenOffice.org and many more applications all ready to use. In addition to the live CD, you can also install PCLinuxOS to your hard drive with an easy-to-use livecd-installer. Additional applications can be added or removed from your hard drive using a friendly apt-get front end via Synaptic.

PC-BSD:

PC-BSD has as its goals to be an easy-to-install-and-use desktop operating system, based on FreeBSD. To accomplish this, it currently has a graphical installation, which will enable even UNIX novices to easily install and get it running. It will also come with KDE pre-built, so that the desktop can be used immediately. Currently in development is a graphical software installation program, which will make installing pre-built software as easy as other popular operating systems.

Progeny Debian:

Founded in March 2000, Progeny Linux Systems develops Linux-based software and services for networking computing environments. Progeny Componentized Linux is a new kind of Linux "distribution", built bottom-up as a set of interchangeable parts that closely track their counterpart "upstream" open-source projects, rather than top-down as a monolithic, difficult-to-change whole. By being constructed in this fashion, the componentized Linux is easier to customise and modify than traditional Linux distributions.

Puppy Linux:

Yes, Puppy Linux is yet another Linux distribution. What's different here is that Puppy is extraordinarily small, yet quite full featured. Puppy boots into a 64MB ramdisk, and that's it, the whole caboodle runs in RAM. Unlike live CD distributions that have to keep pulling stuff off the CD, Puppy in its entirety loads into RAM. This means that all applications start in the blink of an eye and respond to user input instantly. Puppy Linux has the ability to boot off a flash card or any USB memory device (flash-Puppy), CDROM (live-Puppy), Zip disk or LS/120/240 Superdisk (zippy-Puppy), floppy disks (floppy-Puppy), internal hard drive (hard-Puppy).
